History of the P-Class cruisers/ armored ships

These vessels were to be an improved version of the Deutschland Class armored ships. With enough firepower to destroy a cruiser, and 33-knot speed to escape capital ships, they can be considered to be a type of battlecruiser.
At least 9 different designs were drawn up, some with two and some with three triple 11.1" turrets, with a two-turret design being chosen.
Designated P1 thru P12, they were to laid down starting on Feb1,1940. The Z-Plan reduced the number of armored ships to 8, and changed their designation to "Type P cruisers". The other three hulls were to be reordered as O-Class battlecruisers.
With the start of the war, the project was put on hold, until it was completely abandoned.
