Yamato Movie Set

This 1:1 scale model of the forward half of the battleship Yamato was constructed in Onomichi, Hiroshima Pref, Japan. It was used March-June 2005 for the filming of the movie "Otokotachi no Yamato (Men's Yamato)", a production of Toei. The set has proven to be popular tourist attraction, so it will be maintained until May 2006.

Constructed of plywood and fiberglass, the set cost 600,000,000 YEN. It is over 623 feet long and 131 feet wide. Used for certain exterior shots, the set includes one side of the superstructure, the bow, and the two forward turrets, though the foremost turret has no guns. Interior shots were filmed on a soundstage, but an exhibition hall set up next to the set includes a reconstruction of some interior sets, and a large collection of props from the movie

There are no plans to release an English lanquage version of the film.
