Graf Zeppelin Under Construction



Early on in construction the hull is being framed out

The 'turtle deck' armored deck takes form.

The political leadership gathers for launch day. The supply ship Franken is on the next slipway.

On launch day she was officially christened "Graf Zeppelin"

Afloat, Graf Zeppelin is rounded up by tugs.

Graf Zeppelin is towed to the fitting out pier for completion.

At the outfitting pier the island takes shape, and the flight deck is completed. Franken is again the next ship over.

Along side the outfitting pier Graf Zeppelin work continues. Catapults and guns have been fitted, and the ship is about 85% complete.
Work would be halted just days later.
