German Project GK 4021

This 42,000-ton battlecruiser design dates to August, 1917. With 16.5" guns, and 11.8" main belt, and 32-knot speed, these ships would have been larger, faster, better protected, and carried larger armament than the Ersatz Yorck Class ships. However, with only four main guns, their usefulness in surface combat is questionable.
This project, which never got past the preliminary design stage, featured such innovative elements as AA guns in deck mounted turrets, as well as antiquated features such as the casemate guns mounted very low on the hull.
