In a breaker's slip in Brownsville, awaiting
her fate.
October 2000, work began removing the valuable
guns, fittings and non-ferious metals.
The island was removed first and sold to
a museum.
Work was well progressed a this point, with
piles of material building up around the
ship.
With each high tide the remains of the ship
were pulled further onto shore.
As the tide receded the ship was cut up.
Her cruiser origins were now apparent.
The last bit of the ship was dragged onto
shore in July 2002.
